Bring Salim Home

Soon after celebrating their one year wedding anniversary in the beginning of August, my sister, Shukla and her husband Salim went to Cleveland to celebrate a friend's wedding. On August 18, while driving back to their hotel in stormy weather conditions, they suffered a terrible car accident. Not knowing whether Salim was going to make it, my family and his family immediately left Toronto for Cleveland. Within a few hours, relatives and friends from around the world were praying for the couple. Salim woke within a few days and given the nature of his injuries he is going to be on a long road to recovery. Sadly, Shukla, Salim and members of his family continue to be in Cleveland because of the lack of a hospital bed in the GTA/Mississauga. Salim is unable to start rehabilitation until he returns to Canada. As Shukla mentions in the news clip, the insurance company has been a great help but we don't know exactly what percentage of the enormous medical bill will be covered. In addition, there has been a financial toll on the couple as well as their families from having to stay in the USA for over a month. This campaign is to raise funds to alleviate some of the financial stress the couple and those close to them have had to deal with.
