This GoFundMe page is to help a great friend, Sammie "Sweet Tooth" Lowe. Sammie moved to Mobile, AL a little over a year ago with a friend. Shortly after relocating to Mobile, Sammie's friend was diagnosed with bone and colon cancer. She died in January of this year. Soon after that, Sammie began to fall inexplicably. In March, he went to a Dr. in Mobile when it was determined that he needed immediate neck surgery. The Dr. indicated that without the surgery, there was a good chance of paralysis. He had the neck surgery in August and was in the Mobile Infirmary for about a month. He also needs one knee replaced, for sure, and possibly needs both knees replaced. Because of his short time in Mobile and limited mobility, Sammie has not been able to establish a social support system there.
I have been working with Merv White-Spunner (pictured with Sammie), who lives in Mobile and works with people in need, to determine the best course of action for Sammie. We all agree that the best thing would be for "Sweet" to move back to Columbus where he has friends and family who can provide the support he needs as he heals. Merv has met with Sammie several times and has helped in determining his immediate needs. Sammie has a very modest but fixed income through SSA and also has Medicare Medical Insurance. We feel confident that Sweet can live on his SSA income if he can clear his debt and relocate to Columbus. So, the goal of this GoFundMe page is to raise enough money to clear his debt and move him home. I have seen documentation of his medical and personal debt. It totals approximately $5,000.
Those of you who know Sammie know he is a great guy. I have talked to him numerous times over the last couple of months. He is genuinely appreciative of all the help he has already received and wants me to express his appreciation for any support with this effort.
