Bring Your Bag Shorewood (WI)
Donation protected
Plastic bags blow down our streets, get caught in trees, and end up in waterways. Paper bags require trees, water, and energy to produce, too. Bringing a reusable shopping bag is a small step anyone can take to help protect the Earth and its inhabitants.
Bring Your Bag Shorewood's mission is to encourage a transition from single-use shopping bags to reusable bags through education, activities, and coordination with businesses and environmental organizations. We have three goals:
1. to hold an ongoing series of sewing bees to create reusable shopping bags (Boomerang Bags) that will be kept at local stores for people who forget theirs to use and return. Our first sewing bee is scheduled for April 30, 2017. We are collecting lightly used and leftover fabric. Donations will pay for silk screening and sewing supplies, store racks, and printed publicity materials.
2. to file for 501(c)3 nonprofit status, which will allow us to receive tax-deductible donations and apply for grants. Donations will pay for filing as a nonprofit with the IRS and registering with the state of Wisconsin.
3. to connect with similar groups and spread the word across Wisconsin and around the country about the importance of using reusable bags through our Bring Your Bag Wisconsin web site (in progress). Donations will pay for a more memorable ad-free web address.
Thank you for your support!
