Bring Yousuf Alokozay's Family to Safety

We have been separated for a long time. I’m super excited to bring them here to a safe environment and a great community, and we hope to do so by March. These funds will help to speed up their coming. It is a tradition in the United States to aid the reunification of families, and I really appreciate every single person who helped, from the bottom of my heart. I love the kind people in Maine."

Fundraiser Information

Hello, we are colleagues and friends of Yousuf Alokozay, a hardworking member of our Maine community who needs help to bring his family safely to the United States. Yousuf was brought to the United States in January 2022 after the Taliban took over the Afghan government.

Since then he has been concerned for the safety of his wife Hasina, and their three young children, including a daughter and two sons, as well as other family members still in Afghanistan. He fears that his family has been put in danger due to his position in the Afghan government, his work as a military pilot, and his connections as an ally to the US military.

Since arriving in Maine, Yousuf has become an invaluable community member, working for the Maine Immigrant and Refugee services in Lewiston and as a language facilitator and cultural broker in the Brunswick school department. With the funds from this work and additional jobs on nights and weekends, he supports himself and sends money to family members in Afghanistan.

Yousuf has applied to the US Embassy and is trying to raise money to cover the expenses associated with his family’s evacuation, including application fees, visas, medical needs, flights, and more, which has been estimated to cost at least $12,000. This does not include the family’s expenses once arriving.

Yousuf has offered tremendous support to new-Mainer families and students of our schools. The teachers who work closely with him became aware of his family situation and have created this fundraiser to support his efforts. Yousuf shyly agreed at our urging and gave deep felt thanks. Please consider joining us and donating to help reunite a community member with his family and more importantly to cover the expenses required to bring innocent people to a safe place.
