Bringing Back The Princess

Donation protected
Good Day! My Name is David and it is my goal to spearhead the revival of The Princess Theatre in Edmonton, Alberta.

A little about me: I live in Edmonton, I work with Edmontonians. My partner in business and life, Patricia, is fully immersed and passionately invested in Alberta’s arts scene. We love this city, and I never plan on leaving. I am wanting and willing to invest the rest of my life into this city and space. My partner and I in cooperation with architects and GC have developed a plan which I believe will ensure inevitable success!

After multiple walk-throughs and an in-depth look at infrastructure, we see this as a big undertaking we’d love to take on. We know it won’t be an easy journey, but with good planning, complete transparency with donors, and community partnership, this space will flourish! The reality of it is that this building will cost more in repairs and the build is worth. I don’t want to see this building disappear and be replaced with another modern glass box.

The Plan:
As the primary focus of the theatre being film presentations in the past, we are looking to transition the main theatre to a stage where we may host A-List comedians, professional speakers, intimate independent artists and local talent. The Princess II, we plan to leave as a screening room and a secondary performance area. The third floor we plan to renovate into independent offices and production spaces to support this ever-bourgeoning arts community. We are also looking to provide afternoon tours of this historic building at least three days a week.
We will collaborate with our community, provide jobs and create opportunities that we know could massively benefit it. To speak transparently, we are only interested in a supportive income. We are much more dedicated in providing competitive wages for future staff. And any extra profit monies, lets give it away. Re-invest back into the community, support a project, etc. Truthfully $20 could make all the difference in the future of Edmonton arts and History.
We plan to partner with a local industry, and offer tours that will include a 70 minute walk-through of all accessible building areas with a complimentary beverage. We also wish to support the High Level trolley by including ride admission with your ticket stubs.
We have set a large goal in funding, so let me break it down for you. We would love to offer the current theatre owners their asking price without negotiation. Focus will be on keeping everything as original as possible. Guided by our awareness of operating costs and property taxes, we are allocating additional dollars to cover those expenses for an 18 month term.
To everyone who donates to this, we want to offer additional value with your future theatre visits. For example, for every show in the main theatre, we will forever keep 20 seats reserved for donors at no charge. Any Show, Any Artist, Any Ticket Price! A first come, first serve policy will be enacted for these seats. We will keep track of this to allow for equal opportunity for all inquiries. As well, we will install a large brass canvas in the lobby upon which a local artist will engrave all the donors names to be visible and allow us to show further gratitude for your support. We collectively can open the doors together!
That all said, if we do not reach the target goal in the allotted time frame, *we will forward all donations to the Stollery Children’s Hospital.
For less the price of a night out to an Oilers game, an any time shop at Costco, a Starbucks for the office, phffff weed is legal… less the price of an oz of grass, one could make a huge difference by supporting this venture. We pledge to post updates regularly showcasing the progress of this campaign. We also pledge to cooperate fully with Edmonton locals and Albertan companies during the process.

After months of research and planning, material costs, and everything else to fix up this landmark, fiscally for an individual would be daunting to say the least. However, I know of and care for many people in the city’s performing arts scene. I have cemented truthful relationships with many esteemed business leaders, entrepreneurs, team members, partners including but not limited to the groovy mail carrier that visits my residence daily. Edmonton is a vibe! The people here are best kind and its proven in the everyday interactions with you. I know how much talent and passion there is within the community, and I firmly believe we can resurrect an iconic venue.
We see this as everyone’s project and we are thrilled to embrace every step to put in the work, time, effort, and energy required.
Again, with your help we know we can revive the Princess and make sure it and the surrounding arts community thrives for decades to come!
