Bringing Healthy Food To The Hood

Tax deductible
LOCATION: 902 Greenville Road McKinney, TX 75069

June of 1992, exactly 30 years ago (at the age of 15) I stood on this street corner and sold my first dime bag of marijuana. Six years later (at the age of 21) I would be sentenced to life without parole for distributing drugs.

Little did I know that my life sentence would be reduced by President Obama. I was released after 18 years, come back to the City of McKinney, and end up back where it all started: The Store.

But this time I would be supplying the community with fruits and vegetables instead of drugs. Lottery, tobacco, etc, and anything else unhealthy will be destroyed and no longer sold at The Lil Store .

Our organization ATLAST (www.joinatlast.org) has signed a lease agreement to become the new owners of The Store and incorporated it in our program and make it a social enterprise (nonprofit) where our students will learn, among other important lessons, about community, healthy eating, and how to operate a business.

Honestly, I don't know about running a store or fruits and vegetables, but I'm going to learn it. And I (we) are going to learn everything we can and do something good for the Hood.

We need help with connections, beautifying the building, donations, etc., so please leave a donation or comment if you want to help and we will get back.

Thanks to all those that have helped so far (you know who you are), and special thanks to City Council Member Justin Beller and the Marguerite Casey Foundation.
