Bringing New Life to the Ancient Templar Château Cramirat!

We are honored to share with you the exciting restoration story of our 12th-century Templar château in the Valley of Mankind, southwest France.
Château Cramirat is a rare architectural Templar landmark with a well-documented history of ownership that dates back to 1220, built to serve as the chief commandery of the Templars in Périgord and seat of the order’s Grandmaster. The château has never stopped serving the community since, it was also a pilgrim hospice, village school, and community center, and now we are reviving it to stand strong for at least 800 years more.
Restoration work is led by a unique partnership between us owners, designer Dan Alexander and philosopher Anna Ravitzki, and official French authorities (ABF, DRAC, Ministry of Culture, Office of the Mayor of Sergeac). Our Château Cramirat is listed as a French national historic monument within a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and registered as a French Association, No. W244006884 (Le Sous-Préfet de Sarlat). We feel we are continuing in the footsteps of those who wanted to change the world, create equality, and spread a powerful humanistic vision.
Our restoration began in November 2022, starting with the age-old roof, still slated with the original Lauze stones, and then advancing to the magnificent walls dotted with distinct architectural features. Our latest newsletter unveils the ambitious 2024 renovations in partnership with French authorities ABF (Architecte des Bâtiment de France), DRAC (Direction régionale des affaires culturelles), Ministry of Culture, and the Office of the Mayor of Sergeac.
Our goal is to revive the place to its original glory, and transform it into a modern space of innovation. It's not just about architecture, it's about creating a space where minds from different walks of life converge – artists, tech enthusiasts, scientists, and thought leaders.
