Bringing Sarah Kai Home

While traveling through Guatemala conducting research for her first book, our beloved Sarah Kai Wingo entered eternal rest. For 68 days she studied, explored, challenged herself, & fostered community at the Fungi Academy in Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. Five days before she was set to return home to the US, she was found unresponsive in her dorm. Leaving behind heavy hearts and mountains of questions, her family & loved ones are working diligently to gain clarity and make her final arrangements.

As if Sarah Kai’s untimely departure wasn’t enough, Guatemala is currently experiencing a period of civil unrest further prolonging the process of her memorial and burial. It has been over a month of either silence or miscommunication with the Guatemalan PD & the UN leaving the family with little answers and even fewer options. Mystery looms heavy with her passing causing her community unfathomable stress and confusion. Her loved ones simply want to ensure an honorable memorial to celebrate Sarah Kai’s life after she spent it providing love and light to so many.

We acknowledge that we're facing some tough times, but as her community we are willing to do whatever is necessary to expedite Sarah Kai’s return and remains. Funeral and Burial Services

- Contribution for required documents, embalming, funeral expenses, and memorial services.

Cold Storage Nights

- Five weeks of storage to hold Sarah Kai's remains while we wait for the cause of death to be released.

Transportation Expenses

- Contribution to the cost of transporting Sarah Kai from storage to Guatemala City, and additionally to transport her body to the US.
