Brinker Accident- Emergency Fund

Donation protected

David and Chris Brinker's daughters, Emily and Rachel are raising emergency funds in support of Dave and Chris after our dad suffered a serious fall at home on Friday, June 8.

Update (6/24/18) Dad is expected to be discharged from the rehab hospital to home on Tuesday, June 26, where he will continue with needed therapies as he continues to heal from his injuries.

What happened?
Dave fell from a retaining wall at home, and sustained two injuries--a distal radius fracture (wrist) and a L1 burst fracture in his spine. Both injuries required surgery in the first week.  After two weeks in two different hospitals, and intensive physical and occupational therapy, Dave is recovering well and making great progress with his therapies.  He will be going home on June 26 and will continue receiving necessary therapies there.  In the coming weeks, Dave will need at least one more follow-up surgery for his wrist fracture.

Recovery time for his injuries is three months or more.  We expect that he will be unable to work during this time.

How is Dave doing now?
(Updated 6/24) Since the injury two weeks ago, Dave has progressed well. He has progressed in physical therapy from walking using a platform walker, to walking with a cane, to practicing walking without a cane!

His goal is to go back to work as Chaplain at Normandie Ridge as soon as his surgeons release him to do so.

Let's surround Dave and Chris with love and support during this time of recovery and healing. Dad is motivated to get back into the garden, back to wood-working, back to walking unassisted, and back to "normal" life with Chris and his larger community.  Showing him your love and support will definitely make his recovery time easier.

With your help, we hope to shower Dave and Chris with our prayers, our love, and a total of $6,000 in donations to ease the financial impact of this accident.  No gift is too small, and we are so appreciative of your support.  Please also write a message or prayer of hope and healing here for Dave and Chris!

Where does the money go?
The funds will go to Dave and Chris Brinker to help to cover medical expenses and loss of income resulting from his injuries.

Does this site take any fees?
GoFundMe charges a 2.9% + $.30 per donation fee. The rest of the money goes directly to Dave and Chris.

Can I donate directly instead of going through GoFundMe?
Yes. If you prefer to write a check, you can.  Please get in touch with Emily and Rachel through this site and we will send you the correct address.

Don't you just love these two? We do, too.  Let's show them how much they are loved!

Update (6/24/18): Here is a message from Dave to those who have contributed to this fund: "I continue to be profoundly touched by the power of people's kindness. It is overwhelming, and I am deeply blessed. Thank you."

Thank you so much for your generous support.  If you have any questions, you can contact Emily and Rachel through this site, and we'll get back to you!

With all our love,
Rachel Brinker and Emily Barnes
