Brisbane Arts Theatre - The show must go on!
The Brisbane Arts Theatre has been around for 80+ years, but this year could be its last.
This not-for-profit organisation, which usually stages up to 250 affordable performances for kids and adults every year, operates solely on performance revenue, education tuition fees, public donations and the support of volunteers.
Covid was a major blow, and with attendance numbers still down the Brisbane Arts Theatre is struggling to keep its doors open. This ABC radio interview with John Boyce (Artistic Director and CEO) in May 2021 explains the current situation: ABC Radio Interview with John Boyce
I’m sad to think the Brisbane community will lose yet another piece of its history through the closure of this venue. It’s more than a historic building – it has contributed greatly to our vibrant arts sector over many years and supported many young performers courageous enough to take the stage. I’ve taken my daughters to a number of Children’s performances at this beautiful little theatre, and with my 10 yo now wanting to be an actress herself, I hope that by taking positive action she may be able perform on this stage one day.
HOW YOU CAN HELP:
(1) Make a donation – The Brisbane Arts Theatre is a registered charity. Your donation will go straight to the Theatre to assist with building maintenance and theatre production costs. In addition, your support (however small) will demonstrate to the government that the Brisbane community values this organisation and may help to justify a future application for ongoing government support.
(2) Contact local Member for McConnel, the Hon Grace Grace to ask for her support Email Grace Grace . Grace Grace works extensively with community organisations in her electorate, and as Minister for Education may be interested in supporting the Brisbane Arts Theatre in their purpose of providing comprehensive theatre education for performers and technicians.
(3) Attend a performance! Show your support for the Brisbane Arts Theatre and their up-and-coming performers by attending one of their stage productions. For more information visit their website: Brisbane Arts Theatre website
(4) Spread the word – Feel free to share this GoFundMe campaign with those people or organisations who you feel may be interested in supporting the Brisbane Arts Theatre.
