Briskey Family

Hello, My name is Kim Quigley; I am setting up this fundraiser for a very special family who has had their lives turned upside down since May 26th. Before May 26th Jolie was a strong vibrant, hard-working adult with no health issues at all, Jolie was at work (as a teacher) when she collapsed; she has not been able to walk; she has lost her speech and is so dizzy that it is hindering her eyesight. From May 26 through Oct. 14 the Briskey family had no answers to what was causing all of these issues. Finally, on Oct. 14th, they were given some terrible news; the diagnosis from U of M Hospital was very devastating; Jolie was diagnosed with High-grade serious Ovarian Cancer, Stage 3 and Paraneoplastic Cereberrlar Ataxia and also side effects from her first round of Chemo. Jolie has undergone debulking surgery. That means the removal of the ovaries, fallopian tubes and some connective tissue. After that, she had her first chemotherapy treatment for what could not be removed. Ovarian cancer has caused something called Paraneoplastic Cerebellar Ataxia Syndrome. These are the antibodies her body created to fight off cancer, they turned on her central nervous system, specifically the cerebellum. The Antibodies caused what looked like a stroke or strange autoimmune diseases. Neither of which it happened to be. This disease is rare but not unheard of.
Jolie is too weak to endure the rehabilitation wing of the University of Michigan hospital. They did transfer her there for a short time. They worked intensively for three hours a day 6-7 days a week. Physical therapy proved to be too much for her in her weakened state. So they looked all over southeast Michigan for a SAR sub-acute recovery facility. Either they were full or would not take a patient in chemotherapy. So the result was to do home care.
They contracted with Advanced Home Care right here in Sterling Heights. The nurse contacted Eric immediately to get things started.
Jolie was released Wednesday evening, the day before Thanksgiving.
This Fundraiser is to give Eric the ability to take FMLA so that he can care for Jolie - to help her get her strength back to continue with her Chemo treatments, which have been placed on hold for now.
The Briskey family is very thankful to everyone for all they have done so far and have always been there to help everyone and anyone in need, I hope we can share with them as they share with so many other people.
Thank you & God Bless,
