Bristol Welcomes Migrants
Donation protected
Saturday saw a small number of racists cause disorder in Bristol, including marching on the hotel where a number of migrant families are held.
Bristol is a proud anti-fascist city and we outnumbered them hugely, and prevented them from getting to the hotel.
It must have been frightening for the children in the hotel, and we want to show them they are welcome here.
We are people who witnessed the attack on Saturday and wanted to do something nice for the families in the hotel.
We have spent almost £1800 of the donated money already on toys and sweets and yesterday activists delivered the treats to children and families at the hotel. This is great, and we're really pleased that we were able to show them that they ARE welcome and racists are not!
We've been overwhelmed by contact from people wanting to donate, so we’d like to reopen the fund for two more days and see if we can get a little more for two reasons:
1. There are a few more kids housed than we thought and we don’t want anyone to miss out
2. We’d really like to do something small for the parents too.
For all further money raised, we will work with organisations working with the families to distribute - Borderlands and Bristol Refugee Rights.
We are aware of acts of solidarity and welcome taking place across the city. We encourage you to work in your communities to send a clear welcome message to the migrant families of Bristol. There's loads of ways to do this, including raising money for local organisations, art and sending cards and letters.
