Moray supports Ukraine

Donation protected
Back in July, Chris Harris and I set off from Burghead taking humanitarian and medical aid to a refugee centre and a children’s hospital in Ukraine. At the same time, we conveyed four Ukrainians living in Burghead and Aberdeenshire back to their homeland. During our stay in Ukraine, Chris and I met some lovely people who were so proud of their country and appreciative of our efforts to help. It would be fair to say that we were both deeply moved by the response we received.
During our visit we learned that the need for aid is ever changing and around that time of course there was devastation in the Kherson region with the bombing of the dams and the extensive flooding. Clearly, the country is classed as a war zone and therefore entry through the border is difficult. This means that many charities are not physically entering the country and are only getting as far as Eastern Poland which means that aid may not get to where it is needed most in Ukraine. With this in mind, John Gaynor and I are planning a second trip and hoping to set off for Ukraine in mid-October. We are looking to head directly into the Kherson region taking medical aid and equipment to where it is required and travel expenses for the return trip including fuel, ferries and accommodation will be costly.
We were overwhelmed with the financial response we received from friends and family back in July and we were indeed grateful for everyone’s help. Since that time however, it has become apparent that a number of people missed our appeals for help and have since contacted us to say that should we go again they would be happy to contribute. On this occasion Chris will be staying at home but will help with organisation and administration. So whilst this appeal is not aimed directly at those who have supported us previously, this is a heartfelt appeal to anyone who missed our financial appeal last time or anyone who may be able to help with material aid this time. Whilst there is a need for financial support, we are also appealing for help with medical equipment such as mobility aids, nebulisers, dressings and bandages, along with baby clothing, baby boxes, formula, blankets, etc. to provide ongoing support to the people of Ukraine. Without your help a further trip would not be possible and we thank you for your support. Any medical equipment can either be dropped off with myself, John or Chris or we can be contacted through Facebook Messenger to arrange for it to be collected. Many thanks, Danny, John and Chris.
