Brock Poulin Memorial Scholarship

Donation protected
We lost Brock suddenly in June of 2021, and have created this scholarship to remember his dedication to post secondary education and his humour and light.

Brock grew up in the town of Yorkton, SK, Canada where he enjoyed a wide group of friends and discovered his passion for music, film and the arts.

High school kicked off many years of formal education for Brock - he was a sponge - following journalism and film and later teaching and travel.

Brock had a serious side and succeeded academically through writing and editing, but he was also a hilarious and witty human being and loved to laugh.

Brock was the kind of person who brought people together. His sense of humour was so memorable for every single friend he made over his lifetime.

Education

Brock first obtained a BA in Film Studies from the University of Regina (2000) went on to receive his Masters in Journalism (Ryerson 2002) and lastly completed his Masters in Arts from the University of British Columbia (2005).

Brock also travelled overseas to Korea and in his last years of life, enjoyed teaching English in Vancouver, BC.

Recognizing Brain Health & Mental Health

In his final years, Brock’s zest for life was overturned by a severe battle with mental health and addictions.

This was a conflict he unfortunately chose to keep private. Brock was very isolated and alone during the pandemic - something not many of us were aware of - and he lost his battle in June of 2021.

Brock Poulin Memorial Scholarship

In remembrance, we have created the Brock Poulin Memorial Scholarship to support students who currently attend high school in his hometown of Yorkton.

We want to honour Brock’s memory by supporting students who share the same interests and academic goals to pursue a higher education.

We also want to raise awareness around addictions and mental health, and open up fresh understanding of mental health from a new perspective.

If we can create an open conversation about addictions, and keep kids open about self care, well-being, and self acceptance, we might save the lives of kids like Brock.

Brock’s memory will live on because of your meaningful financial support for this scholarship.

Thank you for your support, ongoing kindness, care and generosity.
