Brockwell Park Oak Tree Sculpture Memorial carving
We are fundraising to enable the oak tree bough that fell off of the 600 year old Oak tree in Brockwell Park last summer to be carved into a beautiful memorial sculpture bench by famous local artist sculptor Morganico.

Many people have suffered or lost lives during this pandemic to Covid-19, and a large proportion have suffered or died due to isolation, homelessness, addictions, mental ill health, poverty, loneliness, violence and murder. So the design of the wood carving memorial bench will represent this.
Morganico is well known for carving the much loved Peckham totem pole in Southwark on Peckham Rye Common that symbolises the diversity of local & global community. In the summer of 2020 during the pandemic he also carved a very similar giant Oak branch into a very popular climbing frame / nature themed bench for the Friends Of Ruskin Park group & Lambeth council in the same borough as this iconic tree.

On a personal note, both Elizabeth and Morganico lost brothers during the pandemic due to mental health suffering. This tree sculpture bench will act as a memorial as well as a symbol of contemplation and hope. Many people have suffered or lost lives during this pandemic, and a large proportion have suffered or died due to isolation, addictions, mental ill health, loneliness and fear.

We aim to transform this giant fallen branch in Brockwell Park that’s already popular with children to climb on into a magical memorial bench that still functions as a climbing frame but which also stimulates the mind & imagination in a far deeper way on many levels to bring healing, intrigue & solace to those in need visiting the park.
