Broken Rainbow partners with Bombas socks

Again this fall Broken Rainbow has received 5000 pairs of socks from Bombas Socks through their Giving Partners program. We are distributing them to needy people on the Navajo Reservation. While most of us take it for granted we will have clean undergarments when needed not everyone on the reservation does. We need to rent a unit to store the socks and fuel to deliver the items to the distribution points on the reservation. We are working with St Michael's chapter, Tuba City, families on Big Mountain and other remote areas to determine those needing assistance.

Here's a little bit about our mission and history. The Academy Award-winning documentary Broken Rainbow inspired the non-profit Broken Rainbow. Katherine Smith of Big Mountain, Arizona was featured in the movie depicting the relocation of Navajo from their traditional homeland. I first met Katherine in 1998 when I was teaching and she visited my classroom. I visited her at Big Mountain, Arizona and build a strong friendship with her and other members of her family. Every year after that friends and strangers donated items that I delivered to her home and distribution point. Today, numerous families in remote areas of the Navajo reservation live without running water, electricity, and other necessities of life. Our fundraising provides families with water, food, clothing, blankets, etc., things most people take for granted.

We are always collecting and delivering donated items to individual homes using monetary donations to pay for the fuel necessary to get to these families. We use several 4X4 trucks to drive the many miles on single-lane dirt roads riddled with potholes or washed out by recent flooding. Your donation are always appreciated. Thank you.
