Bronze Shoes Installation Project
Donation protected
Aimee Sitarz, a recent graduate of PNCA in Portland, was shocked and horrified by the audio recordings and stories of the refugee children that are being separated from their families at the US Border. To protest the Trump Administration's deliberate political cruelty, and to draw attention to its fascistic policies, Aimee created a display of bronzed children's shoes, which she daringly installed across the street from the ICE detention facilities in SW Portland.
I am Theresa Mitchell. I'm writing this in the hope that you will consider contributing to Aimee's Bronze Shoes Installation Project, which has gone citywide with an enthusiastic reception. Bronze shoes have popped up all over Portland! At her own considerable expense (she makes very little money as a nanny), Aimee has galvanized the public with her art, which has brought people across both sides of the Willamette to tears and/or to action.
This art project needs to go national!
Your contributions will aid Aimee directly, as she buys up the shoes, and art supplies to transform them. She needs that financing to continue and expand her efforts; your gift will help her remain solvent as she puts up more and more bronzed shoe installations. This project needs to expand--to Seattle and perhaps San Francisco at first, and onward across the nation.
One can of spray paint is just 5 dollars. That will finish around 25 shoes.
A can of waterproof lacquer is double that (the rainy season is upon us)
Shoes are $1.29/pound after 25 pounds.
Wire is 5 dollars for 100ft.
.....and gas money.
In the grand scheme of things, it's just a little money-- but she can make it go a long way.
These are her words....
"The Bronze Shoes remind us that these children are precious, and we will not forget them. The shoes are not about me, but I will continue to make them until ICE is out of Portland!" (and possibly the nation)
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
