Brooke Adams recovery fund

Donation protected

Brooke Adams is a family friend who I've personally known since she was 14.... when I was asked to help I immediately jumped at the opportunity because Brooke is very near and dear to my heart...  in fact she is the reason I'm a makeup artist today.  She was my very first client while working at a record label and she gave me the confidence to pursue my dream as a makeup artist.   Today she needs all of our help!!!! Please also keep her in  your prayers!  I believe that the prayer of faith makes a difference and God honors the prayer of the righteous!

James 5:16 King James Version (KJV)

Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

Below are the details sent by her family and I ask for each and every one of you please donate to her fund.  Any amount will help and I believe that she will recover through God's grace and through your help and prayers.  God bless you all.

Brooke Adams is in an extremely vulnerable position and needs all of our support for her protection and recovery.

On August 18th, just before her 32nd birthday, Brooke suffered two cardiac arrests that resulted in a diffuse brain injury due to lack of oxygen. As is common, Brooke’s brain began to swell in response to the initial injury, increasing the risk of brain death or fatality. The doctors initiated therapeutic hypothermia to mitigate the damage, but they were unsure whether or not she would pull through; she did.

Since then, Brooke has made slow but consistent progress. Her medical condition is now stable and all her vital organs are working properly. More recently, she has begun to develop cycles of wakefulness, with periods where she opens her eyes and reacts to sound and touch. That being said, she does not yet follow verbal commands, which precludes her from qualifying for more intensive rehabilitation at this time. Brooke’s recovery will be a long road, but she is a fighter, and we believe that God saved her for a reason. Ultimately, we know that her recovery is in His hands, and with each new day we pray that God will bring her to a more conscious state. But as her caretakers here on earth, we have our own responsibility to provide her every fighting chance that we can, and this is where we need your help.

At the moment, we are at the critical juncture of transferring Brooke from the hospital to a long-term care facility. Unfortunately, as a self-employed performing artist, Brooke did not have the finances or access to anything more than California’s public health insurance. This low level of coverage puts her at a huge disadvantage for placement in an adequate long-term care facility and will not cover the full costs of the medical equipment and the rehabilitation services she will need to completely recover. MediCal also does not provide for such essential preventative care measures as the kind of air mattress she needs to prevent pressure ulcers (which, once developed, are hard to treat and can lead to deadly infections). An estimate of medical and non-medical expenses per Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) survivor averages at about $151,587. While the costs of care are going up, current trends in medical insurance systems such as health maintenance organizations (HMO's) are reducing the amount of benefits that will be paid. This is producing a crisis in the payment for long-term, catastrophic injuries like acute brain injury.

As difficult as it has been for us to decide to ask for help, we have come to realize that we can’t provide Brooke with the vital care that she needs on our own.

Any amount will help and will be greatly appreciated. We also ask that you keep Brooke in your prayers, as we trust in God to bring her back to health so that she can fulfill His plan for her life.

Thank you all in advance for your prayers and financial help.  We will keep you updated on Brooke’s recovery.

A personal message from Brooke’s mother

I want to personally thank you in advance for your generosity to help financially with Brooke’s recovery. It was very hard for me to share this tragedy with the world but Brooke needs it for what’s going to be a very long recovery and a mother’s love has no boundaries.
