Brooke and Gayles Breast Cancer Charity Drive

Donation protected
Heading into the new year I have re-newed the charity event to raise funds for the strong and amazing people that have been battling breast cancer or who are survivors. As 2020 has been a struggle for most, I am wanting to help those that may need more support or assistance than others. As my mum has overcome her battle with breast cancer, it made me more aware of the impact others had on myself and my family to get through this tough time and it's now our time to give back to others.

The funds raised will help with creating care packages to gift to families and individuals impacted by breast cancer.

If you have been impacted or know someone impacted, please reach out to me on [email redacted]

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all and thank you for your ongoing support.

For those that don’t know, recently my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer and my nan has recently had her cancer come back. My mum has just started her chemotherapy, while my nan has only just begun her treatment due to her decision to delay treatment as she wanted to care for my pop full time before he passed away. They are both THE STRONGEST people I know and I know they will kick cancers butt!

I have been deciding for quite some time and preparing myself for the day I found out about my mums and nans breast cancer. It has entirely consumed me, trying to figure out different ways I can help them both during these hard times. I know I could never be able to fully understand the pain, trauma, stress and anxiety they are both going through, so the least I can do is this:

In a few weeks (once restrictions are lifted) My sister and I will be shaving and donating our full head of hair. In this attempt to raise awareness and support of my mum and nans cancer, We will also be donating half of the proceeds to the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. I am currently in the process of saving up to purchase an electric adjustable bed for my mum and nan. Although, it makes me wonder how others out there may not have such support during such a traumatic time. Hence, why I have chosen to raise these funds to help those that need it more. In addition to this, as strong minded and stubborn both my mum and nan are, they would never want to ask or accept any monetary or physical gifts even if I did choose to raise money for them directly.

Some may ask, why would you choose to shave your hair? What does that even help with?

By choosing to shave my hair, I am allowing myself to be able to share the smallest portion of somewhat pain, insecurity or form of display for what they are going through. Like I mentioned earlier, I can’t relate to what they are going and I can only imagine and help support them through this. This is a symbol of me attempting to go through the process with them. Their pain is my pain and we are going to get through it together. Although it is just hair, if I can at least try and have some sort of relation to what they are going through, you best believe I’m doing it. Secondly, for the most, hair is something that many people take for granted, yet value so highly due to the desired social image. For both my mum and nan, I am showing them that hair does not make you beautiful. It’s simply, just hair.
