Medical treatment for our daughter Brooklin McCoy
Donation protected
Brooklin McCoy is 21 years old who is suffering from Post Concussion Syndrome. Brooklin had four concussions from 2019-2020 from playing sports. She was diagnosed with vestibular ocular dysfunction in March 2020.
Then on September 28, 2021, Brooklin received another concussion while attending college. She passed out in her dorm when she went to get out of bed to get ready for class. She was unconscious for an unknown amount of time. This has caused a severe disability in her day to day living.
Since then, Brooklin has had multiple issues resulting from the concussions. She struggles daily with memory loss, forgetfulness, confusion, light sensitivity, noise sensitivity, nausea, vomiting and other symptoms.
Brooklin goes to Cleveland twice a week for speech therapy to help with cognitive issues. She has multiple medical appointments weekly. Our goal is to raise money so we can help her with medical expenses to send her to CognitiveFx a post Concussion clinic in Utah and to Pennsylvania for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. We want to be able to give Brooklin a healthy life again.
Having a Traumatic Brain Injury is an invisible injury with a functional disability.
No donation is too small. Everything is appreciated and very grateful.
Thank you for helping ❤️
Update:
Brooklin completed the EPIC treatment program at CognitiveFX. During her time at Cognitive, Brooklins memory improved, some of her rational thinking improved and her witty sense of humor came back. Brooklin still has some hard work ahead, with Speech, Occupational and Vision Therapy. There are 3 phases for the at home program. Brooklins post care is recommendations the doctor ordered for Brooklin that is based off of her Functional MRI results, therapies and symptoms during the EPIC treatment.
Brooklin is currently in phase 2. This phase is 5 days a week with two days off. This phase will take anywhere from 3-12 months. When the physical symptoms go away then she can move to phase 3. Phase three is 1-2 days a week for life. The nurse told us that Brooklin will start to notice a difference in the next 3-4 months and she will keep improving.
We don’t have any pictures of Brooklin during her treatment because they didn’t allow families in the room as they didn’t want it to be a distraction to the patients. We do have over 200 pages of documentation from all of her therapies, testing and doctor notes.
We did have to take a loan out on our 401k to pay the difference for her treatment. Our children are priceless and how do you put a price tag on what you can and can not do to help. We are doing everything we can, to help our daughter get her life back. Thank you so much for your help❤️
Blessings,
Larry and Angela McCoy
