Brooklyn Park Lions Drum & Dance Corps
Donation protected
Please help support Brooklyn Park Lions Drum and Dance team (BPLD&D). As a result of Covid 19, we lost our main source of income which was fundraising by participating in Parades and conducting performances throughout the state of Minnesota. BPL is a youth serving non- profit in the city of Brooklyn Park, MN.
We were expected to conduct 15 parades/performance in 2020. However, we have been reduced to 3. B.P.L, relies on fundraisers, donations, and community support for the following items: uniforms, transportation, drums, practice space, and fund competition entry fees.
Our goal is to raise $10,000 which will go towards operating the program and purchase the items listed above.
Currently, we serve 60 youth between the ages of 6-21 years old. The youth are placed in a junior or senior squad. This award-winning group was created by Lion Lyn Joyner and the late Lion Bruce Gurley in 2008. The youth involved have participated in many parades and various Minnesota community festivals during Summer and Fall months over the last 12 years. Often, receiving standing ovations in response to their touching and energizing sights and sounds. In total, the D&D has created opportunity for 400 Brooklyn Park youth and involved in over 10 thousand hours of Lions’ service. Lions Johnnie and Nate are positive male role models, mentors, and life coaches for the youth; they genuinely care about the community, they care about the youth and want to make a difference.
D & D Program objectives:
• Developed individual discipline and pride while working with a team toward a shared goal.
• Competed with other bands by entering contests.
• Participated in structured and supervised activities during their free time.
• Engaged with positive role models from the community.
• Connected with other Brooklyn Park families.
• Learned value in providing community service for others.
• Enjoyed the experience and are encouraged to be LOUD and HAVE FUN!
