Brooklyn's year long mission trip to Kenya

Hi, my name is Brooklyn.

I am raising funds to be able to go on a year long mission trip to Malava, Kenya. This is something God originally put on my heart two years ago, I feel like He has made it abundantly clear and that it would be dishonoring and disobedient not to. So I’m stepping out in faith. I have prayed intently, fasted, and sought wise counsel. I also believe Jesus makes it clear in the word. I know not everyone is called to the same thing or in the same way, and that God puts different things on different people's hearts for different reasons.

Rose the local leader, I will be helping has a Children’s Home named “Tumaini Miles of Smiles centre” and a school “Bright Smile Hill school”, she also has a widows empowerment program, a trade school and helps empower her community in other ways as well by providing menstrual resources, and through a cow program. She brings hope through her preaching and how she shows the love of Jesus to people. I will also get the opportunity to help with a revival she puts on through a soccer tournament. I love that this is a way to reach the community directly, and touch people that may never just come to church but would come to a soccer game.

When God put this on my heart and I reached out to Rose and it aligned with what she needed help with despite us having not talked about this before. I will be helping her with her sponsored children program, making home visits with sponsored children's families and widows. When I’m not doing that I will be helping in the school office. I will also be leading a bible study weekly with church members, monthly with widows, and helping with the children at the children’s home on Saturdays.

I will be living at a house on the property referred to as “Tumaini” which means hope in Swahili, this property couldn't have been more perfectly named. It is where the Children's Home, school, and church are. I have had the opportunity to visit twice before and Rose’s faithfulness and the impact she makes is so inspiring and was transformative.

The $15,000 dollars is for the cost of being able to do this for a year.

The cost includes my flights to and from the US, the cost of travel for having to leave Kenya at the 6 month mark to be able to renew my visa. As well as my room and board, food, and transportation.

Jesus gave us the command of the great commission before ascending to Heaven. “Go and make disciples of all nations”

We are the hands and feet of Jesus, are privileged that he uses us.

The bible also tells us in James 1:27 that “Pure and undefiled religion before our God and Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”

The bible has a promise for those who support missionaries. In Philippians 4, Paul commends the Philippians for supporting him as he spread the gospel in other places. He thanks them and says

“And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus” Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭19‬. He promises to supply for our needs, especially as we prioritize His Kingdom!

I am reminding myself of Ephesians 3:20-21. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

And reminding myself that His power is made perfect in our weakness. If we seek first His righteousness and his kingdom then all else will be added unto us. 2 Corinthians 12:9, Matthew 6:33.

The Mission -

I will be helping Rose share the gospel and I pray to impact, empower, and encourage the people in Malava, Kenya for Jesus Christ. My goal is to show people to love of Jesus to the best of broken and flawed ability.

Personal Transformation – Stepping out of my comfort zones, and in faith, growing closer to God and depending on Him in a way I haven’t had to before, learning from Rose, developing problem solving skills, leadership skills, and growing in compassion and humility.

Community Outreach / Helping impact children and widows' lives- Working with Rose to impact the vulnerable community I will be living in, as well as to help impact widows and children lives directly. Serve and support the local community through acts of kindness, as well as bible studies.

Encouragement & Fellowship – Uplifting local believers, non-believers through prayer, encouragement, and support.

Cultural Exchange & Understanding – Learning from and engaging with different cultures while respecting traditions and beliefs.
