We are raising funds to pay for life saving surgery for our Golden Retriever puppy.
Brooks is a sweet natured and loving goldie puppy – who needs urgent surgery to correct a genetic abnormality called ectopic ureters.
We are raising funds to help cover the costs of her vet bills including medication, imaging, and surgery – totaling around $10,000.
This surgery will correct the position of both her ureters to the bladder as they are currently bypassing the usual route - resulting in a constantly leaking bladder which means repeated urinary tract infections and incontinence.
We weren’t looking for (another) dog when we came across Brooks – but when we heard no one wanted to take Brooks because of her leaky bladder, we knew we had to help her. As animal lovers, my partner and I want to give her the best possible life – starting with this lifesaving surgery.
We have only had Brooks a short time and it has been quite the journey!!
After multiple visits to the vet and specialists, we've had urinalysis, bloods and ultrasounds. She has been on antibiotics basically since she was born due to recurring UTI's. Unfortunately the scans also show she may eventually suffer from kidney disease by the ripe old age of 3 which was incredibly sad news. However, having the corrective surgery will help her kidneys function better and she may last longer.
The next step is a contrast study to find out if the ureter is intra or extra mural which leads to either laser or open surgery.
Day to day, we are managing her hygiene as the constant leakage can cause inflammation of the skin on her belly and thighs. We apply nappy cream twice daily and Brooks wears a nappy overnight.
