Brooksy's Bench
Donation protected
Brooks Moran was the light of everyone’s life. To know him was to be loved by him. Wherever he was, there were endless smiles & twirls, jokes & stories, & the sweetest embraces of all time. Wherever he went, he instantly became everyone's best friend, and when Brooks was your friend, you had a friend unlike any other. Meeting him was like coming across the most magnificent rainbow-colored, bedazzled, smooth operator, space unicorn… the rarest of them all. He breathed technicolor life, magic, & creativity into everything & everyone around him. No matter where he roamed, Brooks always made his way back to his beloved city of New Orleans, where he was (and will forever be) celebrated & cherished by his community. He was taken from us way too soon and we all miss him so very deeply.
Shortly after Brooks passed, I contacted the Audubon Nature Institute about dedicating a memorial bench at The Fly in his honor titled, “Brooksy’s Bench.” As many of you know, The Fly in Audubon Park is a beautiful spot right along the Mississippi River where Brooks and our friends would connect & hang out, catching many sunny days as well as many memorable sunsets. My hope is that this bench serves as a lovely lookout spot where we can all go visit & share memories of our beloved Brooksy while honoring his spirit in a place he loved to frequent.
This dedication involves a five-year pledge and once completed, the bench will continue to be there with a bronze plaque in Brooks’s honor until the end of time. It’s going to be the very first bench to the left of the first gazebo you see right along the river at the front of The Fly when you first enter across the train tracks on River Drive.
The plaque will read as follows:
~ Brooksy's Bench ~
“Just lend me your time, and I’ll make ya smile…”
In loving memory of Timothy Brooks Moran.
March 6, 1989 – July 8, 2022
Beloved by his family and innumerable friends.
As far as fundraising goes, anyone who would like to participate is of course more than welcome & encouraged to do so through donations. There is no minimum donation. All proceeds will be going to the Audubon Nature Institute (a non-profit that operates a family of 10 museums & parks dedicated to nature & animals within the community of New Orleans) and, of course, towards ensuring that Brooksy’s Bench lives on in remembrance of him forevermore.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
Sending love, strength & warm healing energy to you all.
