Brown Girl Outdoor World Gear Library

Donation protected
We all deserve time outside in nature, forming a relationship with the land and getting to know it so that we can love it and protect it.

When I first started camping, I spent two days in a tent bailing water with a cup. I didn't have  the right equipment to ensure that my first time in a tent outdoors wouldn't be my last. When I returned from the trip, I decided that I would go searching for a tent that would allow me to be comfortable while spending my time in the outdoors.

I was in for a surprise when I realized that the costs associated with getting the right equipment would prevent me from being able to afford the "right gear".

When Brown Girl Outdoor World was born, I wanted to create access to nature for people in the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Colour) Community, that would change the narrative around our place in the outdoors. I wanted everyone to be able to spend time getting to know, love and protect nature through fun adventures. Through borrowing, renting and purchasing out of pocket much of the things we needed, I was able to take a number of people into the great outdoors.

I want this to continue.

Your support for this fundraiser will go the extra mile in helping BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Colour) gain access to nature by removing some of the costs barrier associated with having the right equipment to safely and comfortably venture into the outdoors. The equipment will be available on an first come first serve basis.

The right gear doesn't need to be expensive. It simply needs to be available.

Building this gear library will allow a larger number of people to find their place in nature, through adventure, without having to decide whether that time spent in nature is a need or a want.
