Brownsville Jets Fundraiser

The Brownsville Jets were started in 1964 by Gregory "Jocko" Jackson. Jocko was 14 when he decided to start his own basketball team. Tired of playing for other coaches and programs, he decided to start his own. Playing all over the city against some of the best competition, the Brownsville Jets began to make a name for themselves as hard nose basketball players that never backed down to anyone. That name still resonates to this day.

The Brownsville Jets were a host to many great basketball players. Players like Gregory "Jocko" Jackson, World B. Free, James "Fly" Williams, Dwayne "Pearl" Washington, Jerry " Ice" Reynolds, Wayne Freeman and George Berry. All of these athletes started their basketball careers playing with the Brownsville Jets, and they all went on to play professional basketball.

The Brownsville Jets started out as a club team made by a few teenagers that decided to take their futures into their own hands. It grew into an organization that decided to help the youth figure out their basketball ambitions and help them figure out life. The Brownsville Jets helped change and save many lives and continue to do so today.

This fundraiser is a way to help us further change lives. The Brownsville Jets run a free basketball clinic every Saturday and Sunday for children ages 5-12. We also run a free AAU basketball program for four different ages groups. We have a 10u, 12u, 8th grade and 15u basketball program. All of our teams play in tournaments throughout the city in this program. Our 15u program also travels from city to city once a month to play in various tournaments. These tournaments help bring recognition to the players who play well. The funds will go towards tournament fees, uniforms, transportation fees, referee fees, etc. This amount won't cover everything for the summer, but it will help get us started.
