Bruce Ackley Recovery Fund

Greetings! My name is David Michalak. Bruce Ackley and I have been partners in improvised music and most of all good friends since 1978. His dedication to and love for music, friends and family has continued through the years—unfortunately, recently interrupted by pancreatic cancer and other health problems. He needs help paying for mounting medical bills, ongoing care, and treatment. Recovery is a long, expensive process; one that he’s been working hard on.
In September of 2022, Bruce received the diagnosis. After several months of chemotherapy, it was determined that it was not working, and that surgery was the only option. In February 2023 he underwent a 10-hour surgery in which his pancreas and spleen were removed. He has been recovering slowly with some setbacks, including two additional hospitalizations. With the loss of his pancreas, Bruce is now diabetic and relies on medications to mitigate that condition, as well as several others.
Thankfully, medical insurance has covered the bulk of his treatments and medicines, but not all. Some that he most relies on are costly and only partially covered, which has had significant and ongoing impact on his and his family’s finances.
For forty-five years Bruce has been a member of the Rova Saxophone Quartet and recently was able to celebrate that milestone in a successful and joyous 45th anniversary concert. He hopes to be able to continue his life in music, unburdened by medical costs.
“Is there anything I can do to help?” Yes. Please contribute to the Bruce Ackley Recovery Fund. We want him to heal fully! The community benefits from his spirit and music.
