Bruce & Kathy Miklavic Support Fund

Friends and Family, the Miklavic and Gaunce families need your help.
On Memorial Day, Monday May 28, 2018, Bruce and Kathy (Gaunce) Miklavic were riding their motorcycle south on State Route 981 in the Latrobe, PA area. A vehicle traveling north on State Route 981 crossed the center line into the opposite lane of travel and struck the motorcycle they were riding on. This senseless act, tragically took Bruce’s life.
Bruce and Kathy took every safety measure they could when it came to proper riding apparel, helmets and safety equipment. The State Police are investigating criminal wrongdoing by the driver of the car and are awaiting his toxicology report.
Bruce died at the scene due to multiple blunt force injuries. Kathy sustained multiple injuries including broken pelvis, arm, leg and knee, cracked vertebrae as well as tissue and muscle damage. Kathy was life flighted to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA where she underwent a 6 hour surgery to repair the extensive damage to her body.
Kathy will need a second surgery to further repair her leg. She’s making slow and steady progress at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Oakland/Pittsburgh. Kathy is out of the Trauma ICU and is on a Trauma Surgical Unit. Kathy will be confined to bed rest for several weeks until she is cleared for physical therapy. She will transfer to a Rehabilitation Facility once her pelvis has healed enough that she can put weight on her legs.
Bruce leaves behind a 23 year old son, Michael, devastated by the loss of his father he was so close to. Bruce was his rock, his role model, his teacher, his father, and Michael was his pride and joy.
This will be a long physical and emotional road to recovery for Kathy. They were best friends, partners and the love of each other’s lives. Bruce, Kathy and Michael lived together in Gibsonia, PA.
Many are asking, how they can help, where can they contribute? Unfortunately, we’ve been told by the insurance companies that the medical bills will be high.
Unforeseen expenses will most likely lie ahead on the road to recovery for Kathy. Any and all contributions will be greatly appreciated.
We will post updates as they become available. Thank you for everyone's continued thoughts, prayers and consideration during this difficult time. We are grateful to have so many good people in our lives.
