Bruce and Mary, Loving Family Needs Your Help

Hi, my name is Jackie and I am asking for this help as a last resort. My sister Mary and her husband Bruce worked all their lives to support their family and friends. They have always given to others before helping themselves. Mary and Bruce have always been the ones to step up and provide for others, whether they were family or anyone that needed help, with no regard for themselves.

Several years ago they moved to Arizona for a better life. Unfortunately, Mary fell and broke her back soon after arriving in Arizona and her injury could not be repaired. Mary has severe mobility issues and struggles to walk and cannot work.

Bruce, after many years as a former smoker and emissions inspector, had to leave his job due to lung disease. Any fumes or virus could end his life. So, Bruce became disabled and struggles to breathe. He requires oxygen during the day and a BPAP machine at night. His health is declining due to Medicare not covering the full cost of the oxygen and BPAP machine. Mary and Bruce cannot afford the copay for the services, so he has no oxygen.

Although it was difficult this year, they were able to make ends meet until recent changes in the assistance programs. The state cut their food assistance to $60 per month. The state also discontinued the programs that assisted them with prescription and utility assistance. As if that were not too much to deal with, their oven stopped working, their kitchen sink stopped draining, and their modular home floor is beginning to separate, letting in moisture and hot and cold air, raising their utility costs. Of course, they cannot do the repairs and cannot afford to have someone else provide that service. There are no charity organizations that will provide these repairs in their county.

Watching them struggle just to have food and be able to breathe is heartbreaking after all they have done for others.

I appreciate that you have listened to all of this. I know that everyone is experiencing hard times. The last few years have been difficult for all of us. Mary and Bruce would never ask for help and are understandably upset by needing help from anyone, including the state services.

It is my hope that anyone that can help in any way, will help. If I can get them some money to provide food, oxygen, BPAP and some repairs, it would be such a blessing.
