Bruce Bernheisel's Emergency Assistance Fund

Hello,

My name is Matt Magill, and this GoFundMe account concerns my father-in-law, Bruce Bernheisel.

Let me tell you about a man I am honored to call "Dad."

Bruce is the father of 2 children, Jenny (my wife) and Shawn. Through them, he is also a wonderful grandfather to 5 grandchildren, Lacy, Connor, Maci, Eden, and Kelton! He is also the brother of Lisa and Kim, not to mention all his extended family he is well loved by. Bruce is among the most honest and humble men I have ever met. He would literally give you the shirt off his back if needed. He loves his family and friends no matter how hardheaded they can be or whatever slight has been put against him.

I could go on and on telling you about how excellent Bruce is but the fact is, Bruce is very sick and needs help.

Last Tuesday (10/18), Shawn notified us that Bruce was found collapsed on the ground in his room and barely speaking. Bruce was taken by ambulance to Riverbend Hospital in Eugene, OR, where he was diagnosed with a bleeding brain aneurysm. The decision was made to conduct a procedure at Riverbend to help increase his chances for survival and immediately transport him to Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, OR for further care.

Bruce is currently unconscious and in critical condition in the ICU. They have attempted one procedure as of Thursday, but it ultimately failed. They want to try another procedure in the next week, but they have to wait while his body and brain heal from the first procedure and hope he stabilizes more.

During this ordeal, Jenny, our kids and I have practically relocated ourselves up the Portland area from our home in Coos Bay to be closer to Bruce. This way, Jenny can be involved with the decisions regarding his care as his advocate and be with her dad where she belongs. This has caused a tremendous financial strain on us, but we are trying to do everything we can to mitigate that. We are also trying to ensure Bruce's financial and personal affairs are kept in order.

What are we asking for exactly? We need financial assistance to make sure Bruce's bills are paid and stay close to him during this time. The funds received will go to paying any bills that Bruce needs to be covered while in the hospital and money for travel needs for Jenny & me, and Shawn as he is up from Eugene as well. Primarily food and gas. We have all been fortunate finding places to stay during this time, thanks to the grace and love of dear friends. Unfortunately, the hospital doesn't have any assistance plans or housing for individuals in our situation.

We understand times are tough for everyone. We are incredibly grateful for any assistance we can get. Even if you cannot donate monetarily, it would help us a lot to contribute your time and effort in at least sharing this fundraiser with your friends and family.

We love Bruce more than words can explain. We want him to feel better and to come home so he can continue spending time with his family.
