Bruce Hauser's Medical Fundraiser

My dad, Bruce Hauser, has been diagnosed with Stage 3 esophageal cancer (squamous cell carcinoma). My dad is trying to stay in good spirits and is ready to fight.
Over the last 6 weeks, we've been to 6 different hospitals, we've been to dozens of appointments and tests, and we've seen the thoracic surgeon, radiation oncologist, the medical oncologist and the chemo team.
The plan: Bruce begins chemo and radiation on Tuesday, July 30, 2019. He will have chemo 1x per week and radiation 5x per week .... for 5 weeks! With esophageal cancer, doing both chemo and radiation concurrently is the recommended course of action, followed by surgery. Once the 5 weeks of treatments are completed on September 2, they will wait 4 weeks and do another PET scan. If the cancer has responded favorably to the treatment, he will be scheduled for surgery which involves removing over half of the esophagus, a portion of the stomach and moving the stomach up into the chest area. It is a major surgery and he will be in the hospital for 7-10 days, likely at the beginning of October.
I am starting this fundraiser* to help alleviate the added stress of finances, which will include a $5000 insurance deductible, extensive time off work, travel expenses, other medical treatments that may not be covered, and unforeseen expenses that go along with such a journey. Fighting cancer is enough of a burden all in itself so I'm hoping to take this extra burden of expenses off the table so that my dad can focus 100% on winning this fight.
