Bruce Johns emergency relief fund
Donation protected
I have had the privilege of knowing Bruce Johns aka Papaw Bruce for quite a number of years. Anyone who knows him knows he is a very humble and very hard working man. He would not like to know this is being done for him, but I'll ask forgiveness from him later. His children know I am setting this up and will tell him when the time comes and all funds will be distributed to him. He will no doubt be overwhelmed by the generosity that I know will be shown to him through this.
Backstory:
Bruce lost his home on 6/25/23 at 11:30 pm when storms came through and knocked down 5 trees. One of the trees was over 4 feet in diameter and fell on his bedroom. God knew Bruce needed his hedge of protection that night. At the time he was sitting in the living room and not in his bed. The recliner in the living room and the Grace of God is his lifesaver. You can see his still made up bed in some of the pictures under the trees.
Bruce was an electrical engineer having worked for 47 years for the same firm, Watkins-O’Gwynn which later became Shultz-Wynne until he retired.
He now lives on a fixed retirement income. Facing an event like this will undoubtedly cause the need to have more funds along with stress. He has even said he may need to go back to work. My prayer is this fundraiser will help alleviate some of that stress and provide a small amount of financial relief.
As always with a catastrophe as this, insurance is not going to cover but half of the 5 tree removal AND replacement of his home and belongings. Being on a fixed income, he needs our help to be able to get a new place to live as well as take care of getting his property cleaned up as well have having his old home removed from the premises. He has worked so hard all of his life to build what he has. When he isn't spending time with his grandkids or children, He loves to work around his property.
He often gives off his time to soccer activities supporting JFC/Rush, his granddaughters high school teams, his grandson's baseball and soccer teams, and Mississippi College soccer. He has been known to build and repair goals, facilities as well as give money when needed. He is a true servant of God.
He is a survivor though, having beat cancer FOUR different times, most recently in January 2023 when he was diagnosed with kidney cancer. He will no doubt survive this setback, but could use a little help to get his property and home ready to be lived in again.
Any amount, big or small, will help greatly towards the goal. I am starting it out small, but will raise it as needed as people contribute. Let's all show Bruce our love and support through this tough time he is facing.
I ask that you please keep him in your prayers as he navigates these uncertain times. Also, please lift his family up as well as they help him navigate this as well.
