Bruce Smith of Middletown, NY passed away peacefully the morning of December 22, 2020 at the age of 68.
Bruce, an avid outdoorsman and conservationist spent much of his life in the forests, streams and lakes of the tri-state area. His love for nature and history was shared by his wife and passed down to his children.
Bruce was also a fighter. For decades he struggled with numerous health issues including renal disease that led to two kidney transplants, heart disease and cancer. Bruce was hospitalized hundreds of times in his life — in the last year alone, he had open heart surgery and also had his prostate and bladder removed.
Bruce continually surprised nurses and doctors with his tenacity and will to fight illness with grace and dignity. His recent care team referred to him as "the bull" because he miraculously bounced back from every medical challenge. No matter how painful his medical issues were, Bruce really wanted to live.
Because of his medical history, Bruce was forced into early retirement and unable to get life insurance. His wife Jaye, who lovingly cared for him for 40 years, is left without any solid financial security. We are reaching out to Bruce's community to ask for help with end of life costs and future expenses.
Please consider caring for Bruce's family the way Bruce cared for others.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
