Bruin Formula Racing - Formula SAE 2022
Donation protected
Hello, we are Bruin Formula Racing, the Formula SAE racing team at UCLA! We compete in the Formula SAE competition, a challenge developed by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). Each year, teams around the world are tasked with designing, fabricating, and competing with small formula-style race cars.
This year, Bruin Formula Racing will compete in the June Formula SAE competition at Michigan International Speedway, in Brooklyn, MI. We need your support to help finish this year’s car, Mk. VII, and help get 48 of our amazing members out to competition!
Our Story:
Bruin Formula Racing (BFR) was founded in 2012 and is one of UCLA's premier engineering organizations. We provide UCLA students with the opportunity to develop hands-on skills that complement the conceptual lessons taught in the classroom. Students will learn how to think critically about design choices, present their ideas, and propose creative solutions to the unique challenges that accompany engineering projects. The competition will provide students with an unparalleled opportunity to work in a high-stress, high-stakes environment, where we look forward to testing our vehicle and validating results from the numerous races we will compete in. BFR alumni go on to work at some of the world’s best engineering companies, helping make the future a reality.
Our Goal:
As a student organization, fundraising is always a challenge. BFR’s goal is to make a high-quality engineering education as accessible as possible, which is why we do not charge any membership fees. But a project of this scale requires immense financial resources. We thank the many university funds and generous sponsors and private donors for their support in this year’s vehicle. However, most funds we raise are used to purchase parts and supplies for the vehicle, meaning travel costs for our competition are left to individual students. It is our goal to make sure any student who wants the invaluable experience of attending competition is not hindered financially. That’s where you come in!
Breakdown:
Any donation made to BFR will go to supporting our competition effort for this year. This is broken down into the following categories:
Finishing Mk. VII
We represent UCLA on an international stage, and we want our car to perform in tip-top shape. In case our current fundraising efforts are not enough, we will use some of these funds to get Mk. VII competed!
Gas Reimbursement
Some of our wonderful engineers have volunteered to drive from Westwood to Brooklyn. They will be towing Mk. VII and a few cars will be accompanying them in case of emergencies.
Lodging
The Formula SAE competition lasts 4 days, so we’ve booked a few rooms in a hotel in Jackson, MI. We aim to make the cost per student as low as possible.
Rental Vehicles
When in Michigan, we need a few extra cars to help shuttle our members from the hotel to the track. As a UCLA student organization, we receive a discounted rate.
Food
College students have prodigious appetites, and BFR members are no exception! We need fuel for the 5 grueling days that we’ll be in Michigan.
Mk. VIII Development
Any other funds will be reinvested into the club for the development of our next competition vehicle, Mk. VIII.
