Stand With Us At Standing Rock
Donation protected
Hi, we're Beth Hedquist and Melissa Hollis. Just a mother and a daughter from Richmond, Va. who have been moved by the peaceful, prayerful, non-violent direct action movement that the Standing Rock Sioux have been demonstrating in resistance to the Dakota Access Pipeline which has already desecrated their sacred burial grounds and threatens to be a danger to the Missouri River, water source for the Standing Rock Sioux and all peoples downriver if this pipeline is allowed to move forward.
In a country that is so divided, we have taken inspiration in how these Native Americans are united in their dedication and commitment to protecting the water and Mother Earth in general. They have withstood horrendous human rights abuses, and we feel a deep calling to travel there and support them in whatever way we can.
We are leaving on Dec. 14th, 2017 and are covering all of our travel expenses. We would like to take all of you with us in Spirit, however! While most supplies would not fit in our suitcases, we would be honored to take your financial donations and present them to the Standing Rock Sioux on your behalf. So anything you would feel called to donate would directly benefit these courageous people, not us. Upon landing in North Dakota, we plan on using the money to purchase some of the items on their supply wish list, such as gift cards, firewood, non-perishable foods, or possibly a blanket or other things to keep them warm over the winter.
We'd like to ask all donations to be submitted by Dec. 12th so we can be prepared for travel on Dec. 14th. We would be more grateful than you can possibly imagine for any amount you would like to contribute, as it will help us increase the amount of support we are able to bring to Standing Rock. Your prayers would also be appreciated.
Follow along with us on Facebook to hear about our experience and see any pics. We won't have a lot of access to wi-fi and cell phone, but we will do the best we can. We would also be so grateful if you were willing to share this on social media to expand our web of support.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. And Bless you.
Beth and Melissa.
P.S. Here is a link to my blog. I'll be writing about my trip in upcoming posts.
