BSA Eagle Scout: Rancho Santa Marta Pool Upgrade
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Jenner Mucher. I am currently a Life Scout in Troop 384, which I’ve been a part of for almost eight years. I’ve learned many skills through scouting, such as first-aid, cooking, and orienteering, as well as community service and leadership.
I am currently on the biggest step in my journey with Scouting; obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout. Everything I’ve learned throughout my journey will be tested. To achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, one must plan and execute a project that benefits the community while demonstrating leadership.
In my search for potential Eagle Projects, I knew that Rancho Santa Marta was a great option. I had visited the ranch a couple of times, with church mission trips and for my brother’s Eagle Project. Rancho Santa Marta is a 450-acre ranch near San Vicente, Baja California (130 miles south of SD). The Ranch is a home for homeless, orphaned, or abused children. It also is a school for almost 300 children from kindergarten through high school. The Ranch coordinator is Rod Struiksma, who along with his wife Tina, have done amazing work raising all of these kids as well as five of their own.
When I first called Rod to ask about potential projects, he immediately began talking about the pool. He explained to me that the pool filter they currently have is an old residential-grade filter that can’t support having up to 50 kids in the pool at once. Being in the middle of the desert, it’s very important that these kids can all be in the pool together. My goal is to replace the current residential-grade sand filter with a commercial-grade DE filter. I also want to provide the funding to get a new pool pump for the Ranch. I will manage fundraising, procurement, team recruitment, transportation, lodging, and on-site installation. I am asking for your help with fundraising. The total estimated cost for the project is $4,100.
I know that my goal is quite ambitious, but I am confident I will be able to achieve it. I would very much appreciate any contribution you can make. If I’m fortunate enough to raise funds beyond my goal amount, any excess money will be given to Rancho Santa Marta and be well utilized for their many needs.
Thank you very much,
Jenner Mucher
