Dick Plummer Needs Your Help

Donation protected
Dear Friends of Dick Plummer:

I am writing to share the sad circumstances that our mutual friend, Dr. Dick Plummer, finds himself in and to ask for your financial assistance to make a difference in the rest of his life.

As you may know, Dick was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease over 10 years ago. It has been a long and costly struggle and sadly much of Dick’s savings were already spent caring for his loving wife,    Jo Ann’s brave and lengthy battle with colon cancer. His children have been advocating for him bravely and relentlessly. He lived with his daughter, Kathy, for a few years until it became clear that both his medical and physical demands required more constant attention than she and her husband could provide while working full time. Dick then moved to Emeritus at Skylyn Place, an assisted living facility, where he has been for the last couple of years. Sadly, his physical and cognitive function have now deteriorated to the point that he now finds himself in the unenviable position of needing full-time, nursing assistance for the remainder of his life. This kind of care does not come cheap and is currently beyond his children’s ability to afford.

If you are reading this, you probably already know Dick and how much he has given in his lifetime, to his family, his profession and to so many others. Dick never took the back seat in anything he was involved in. He always gave 100% often becoming the leader/President/Chairman of any group he belonged to.  This was certainly true in his chosen and beloved profession, Chiropractic. Even before he earned his doctorate at Sherman College of Chiropractic in South Carolina, he had organized a patients’ group (PACE) from his hometown of Paramus, New Jersey to support and impact thousands of people’s lives.  He was so proud of his alma mater, that following graduation and in addition to active practice, he continued to serve Sherman College as a faculty member and later became Dean of Continuing Education. He was among the foundational members of the IFCO (then FSCO) in 1976 and over the years went on to hold many positions including Chairman for nearly a decade. His company, Sunshine Creations, was a staple at most chiropractic events in the 70s, 80s and 90s and his expertise in Animal Adjusting spread his influence throughout the entire chiropractic profession.

Beyond chiropractic he was always active within his community serving and raising money for the Carolina Pregnancy Center, Knights of Columbus, and the Spartanburg Free Wheelers to name a few.  He often appeared on his long-time (now deceased) friend, Bill Drake’s local radio show and was always honored to volunteer for the “Bill Drake Christmas Musical Festival.“

It is true, that as a Vietnam veteran, Dick is eligible for some benefits, but the bureaucratic red tape in accessing the dollars has proven to be too little too late. Won’t you help me help him by making whatever donation you can to the Go Fund Me account that I have set up in his name.  The site is completely secure and virtually all of the money will go directly to him.  Should you have any questions, I would be happy to address them personally if necessary. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
