Help Reunite Our Afghan Friends

Hi, our names are Libby, Barb, David, Althea, Dina, and Kris. We're fundraising to help a nationless Afghan family on their path to reunification with family in Worcester, MA. Any amount helps.

We know of these people from our dear friends, a young family of five brothers and sisters who escaped Afghanistan in 2021 as the Taliban swept to power. They were lucky to catch one of the last flights out of Kabul and are now thriving in Worcester, where they have full-time jobs and are attending college part time. They are fully self-supporting.

Their remaining family –parents, sister, brother and his wife and two small children—were not so lucky. Until they find their way to safety their lives are in great danger.

This family supported the US efforts to build democracy in Afghanistan. They worked as engineers for the democratic government, teachers of women, advocates for the rights of prisoners, and authors of the Afghan Constitution. They are eligible for repatriation to the U.S. but we need to raise the money to bring them here. There are no available sources of financial or political support until they apply for refugee status in another country that has a UN Refugee Agency.

Our goal is to raise enough money to bring these seven people to another country where they can apply for refugee status at a U.N. office. Travel, food, and lodging for 2-3 months will cost around $10,000. We have a plan for their repatriation and now need to raise funds to realize our goal.

Will you please help? It’s hard to imagine the constant anxiety our friends are living with as they build a new life in Worcester, Massachusetts while fearing for the lives of their family. We hope you'll understand why we cannot share details about their family's location.

In partnership with Welcome NST , we work as a volunteer Neighborhood Support Team (NST) who have supported this family in building new lives in Worcester. 100% of your donations will go to our efforts to support this family as they find their way out of danger and join their children and siblings in Massachusetts.
