WHY BTCH?
Reclaiming the word “bitch” means
Proving to people who ever doubted me that I was able to do things just as well if not better than them.
When you get treated with such disrespect so many times when you didn’t deserve it, there’s something really powerful about that reclamation.
Space-making for people who have had similar struggles as I have means a lot to me. I believe the value of art is immesurable, and giving our local artists and production workers funding will benefit our entire community.
The day this idea came, I was visiting a venue I production manage during an open mic. Some guy was using our PA while trashed - his response to me trying to protect the gear: “I don’t know what that bitch has wrong with her...”
I couldn’t have been nicer, whereas this gentleman had never performed professionally, always drunk, rude, never pleasant, and had been given so many chances. It was still a question of whether *I* was right or wrong. Is Madi being unruly? His hostility from the start struck me. As a femme person, I feel the need to be overly nice, hospitable and accommodating.
Thus, BTCH.
You have to come through twelve times harder to get an “Oh, she knows what she’s doing.”
HOW?
Transparency is very important to me in this endeavor. I want my funding and payouts to be freely examined. Hence the inclusion of our spreadsheet: https://tinyurl.com/4r2vya42
Click here to see our progress, as well as a spreadsheet of our funding needs! (Our budget is subject to change, as we are exploring options to move to a larger venue)
With equipment rentals and band payouts, we desperately need sponsors and funding. We want to give guests and bands alike the best eperience we can.
Here is our GoFundMe: https://www.gofundme.com/f/btchfest
And here is where you can find promotional material to disseminate: https://tinyurl.com/mrxeznbm
WHO?
The bill will feature a gnarly lineup of women and nonbinary femme-fronted and -featured bands/musicians (NO TRANSPHOBIC BULLSHIT!!).
Additionally, the production staff will be femme centered. I have been and will be training folks on sound to perform audio engineer duties. Our lights will be conceptualized and executed by a woman and her chosen team.
