The Vagina Museum is one month away from closing – forever

The Vagina Museum will be forced to close its doors permanently. The world feels like it has got worse and we cannot weather this storm alone any longer. We need your support more than ever. Without it, we will permanently close our doors, and will be forced to stop all digital activities.

We are battered from all sides.

Reproductive rights are in crisis.

Women’s rights are in crisis.

LGBT+ rights are in crisis.

Arts and culture are in crisis.

This has had a serious impact on our short and the long-term sustainability.

This month is make-or-break.

We have a large rent payment going out at the end of March which we are expected to pay quarterly rather than monthly. This will drive us below our minimum reserves limit. We have tried hard to negotiate an arrangement with our landlords. We want to pay our rent. They are aware of the situation. They refuse to exercise discretion.

We stand defiant

Over the years, the Vagina Museum has come to represent a lot of important things for a lot of people. We welcome thousands of in-person visitors every month, and reach many more through digital outreach. We educate people around the globe. We are a space to come together, learn and celebrate about the world’s most-misunderstood body part. We are not afraid to tackle topics which are unpopular, unfundable, taboo or uncomfortable. We stand defiant in a world which needs us, but does not always want us.

We believe the world needs this space more than ever. We know you do too!

If we do not meet our target, we will see what is possible with the funds raised. If it is enough for us to continue operations for another few months, we may be able to stay while looking for longer-term funding. If we exceed our target, we could enter a growth phase. We are currently operating with the smallest possible budget and the smallest possible team who work hard to bring you world-class exhibitions, events and engagement.
