Bubba’s Hemilaminectomy Surgery

Hello everyone. Many of you know my younger sister Prestine. After high school she traveled out of state to attend college. Being away from friends and family was tough. She knew she needed some extra comfort. 3 years ago she found exactly what she needed. After 3 hours of travel she adopted her first and only fur baby, Bubba. Bubba is a very happy, strong, energetic, and playful American Staffordshire. Being only 3 years old he still thinks he’s a 20lb puppy and gets the zoomies at least 3 times a day. Bubba hasn’t only brought endless amount of joy to Prestine, but he has become part of our family. Unfortunately, Bubba encountered an injury on Tuesday December 19th. Very suddenly, he tore a disc in his vertebrae and is paralyzed from the bottom of his rib cage down and has no function in his hind legs. He has no history of medical problems and showed no signs of this case.

He was rushed to the vet in the middle of night just to find out the neurologist is out of office until Friday. The next closest neurologist on duty is 5 hours away. Prestine and our father made the travel with Bubba to ensure he got the care he needed. After meeting with the vet, Bubba will have to stay over night at the facility and receive an MRI and a hemilaminectomy surgery first thing next morning. Not only is his vet bill expensive, but they will have to stay in a hotel for several days until Bubba is okay to travel again. We are so thankful and relieved that our Bubba is going to be okay and his injury is not permanent.

It has been a very unfortunate event to occur especially during the holidays. Prestine is staying strong for Bubba and not showing worry, but I know this is a very frightening and stressful situation.
