Buchko IVF Journey

Hello, We are Cody and Megan Buchko. We've been married almost 8 years and hope to be blessed with our first child soon. During the first five years of our marriage, we spent a lot of time apart because of Cody's deployment/military obligations  and his full-time job requiring travel.  Because he was gone all the time, Megan decided to return to school first for Medical  Assisting, then for Ultrasound. We made the best of any of our time together and attempted to start a family. Sadly, we weren't able to do so. 

During the last three years, Cody has gotten a job that doesn't require travel, and Megan attended Ultrasound school; she just graduated in May!! She has since begun a career as an Ultrasound Technologist. Now that life has settled (a little); we've finally been able to put all our efforts into starting a family. Little did we know, this would not be easy for us. Unfortunately, we still have not gotten pregnant... no matter what we try. We share so many dreams for our future, but our greatest dream is having children. We hope with all we have that we can add two little feet to our family this year. Our three dogs would love human siblings.

For the past two years, we have been working with UPMC Reproductive and Endocrinolgy to go through fertility testing and have been told we have "unexplained infertility". This diagnosis was hard for us to swallow, probably hardest for Megan who's had the desire to be a mother since she was very small. Every diagnosis is different but with unexplained infertility there really is no way to fix it. There isn't anything specifically wrong. We just have to trust our Doctor and hope for the best.

Over the last 10 months, we've had multiple failed medicated IUI cycles and Megan turned 35 this year, so our Dr recommended we move straight to IVF, as she does not want to waste anymore of our time on IUI. Our IUI cycles were not covered by our insurance and sadly no part of IVF will be covered either. IVF is not one-size fits all and every couple's plan is different. We've learned that the plan our Doctor has for us will cost us approx $12,000 just for the IVF cycle. This cost does not inculde any medications or any possible unforeseen expenses that may occur during our cycle. So we are anticipating a need of $17,000 total. While asking for help is not in our nature, we humbly realize we cannot do this alone. All donations go towards IVF expenses, travel for Dr appointments and medications.

We have so many people in our lives supporting us and offering advice, and when we say we've tried it all we truly have... Putting our faith and trust in our first (and hopefully only) IVF cycle is the only option.
