Buffalo Youth Sewing, Styling, & Photography Class

My goal with any programming I facilitate is to provide the most equitable and fulfilling experience possible. It’s very important for me to expose as many young minds to the fashion industry as possible. With that vision, I have put hundreds of sewing machines in the homes of young people all across Western New York, and aim to provide hundreds more.
My ongoing partnership with GSNC has provided the opportunity to reach out once more for contributions to this effort. This summer our program will guide 6 young learners, and hopefully provide paid internships to 2 very bright Buffalo State University students.
This summers 6-week program will include 3 weeks of instruction focused on sewing skills. Students will learn how to operate a sewing machine, and construction fundamentals while using professional level tools and equipment. They will complete 2 projects of their own that they will be able to keep, and wear. The second half of the programming schedule will be devoted to the development of a Fashion Styling & Fashion Photography portfolio. My goal is to utilize the Digital Media Studio at the newly remodeled Buffalo AKG Art Museum.
As we know, studying art can cost a tremendous amount, and fashion sometimes seem like a multiplier. My efforts of providing tools and equipment for my participants have never failed, and I don’t look forward to seeing that happen ever.
All of the participants of this program will go home with everything they work with. They will receive their own sewing machine, their supplies of thread, notions, shears, and various other tools. They will leave with a sewing technique portfolio and a Styling & Photography portfolio.
Thank you in advance for whatever you are able to contribute, even if it is just this short read and a prayer.
