Buffie's Medical Journey

Hey, my name is Alysia, and I am raising funds for my mom, Buffie Randolph. On December 11th, her sugar level jumped to over 500 and her blood pressure dropped. She was rushed to the hospital, where they stabilized her levels. They said it was a reaction to one of her medications and took her off the medication. January 7th, she complained she couldn't breathe, she had intense stomach pains, her blood pressure dropped, and sugar level rose again. She was rushed to the hospital and was transferred to Savannah, GA for surgery. They had to remove a large portion of her intestines because they "died" due to a lack of oxygen/blood flow. They had to stop the surgery because she became unstable and the swelling was too much. They kept her sedated until she became more stabilized and the swelling went down so they could finish the surgery. They finished the second surgery on January 10th and removed more of her intestines. They were going to wake her up on January 10th, but her levels weren't where the doctors want them to be. On January 16th, they had to give her four units of blood because her hemoglobin levels kept decreasing. They did a CAT scan and saw she had internal bleeding. They called the surgeon back in for another surgery. They were able to stop the bleed and she is now doing better.

 

As of January 24th, she is now awake and off the ventilator. There is still a lot of swelling and the wound is still open, but she seems to be progressing. She has a long road of recovery ahead of her. Once she is better, they are transferring her to a rehabilitation facility. My dad just retired from the Navy after 20 years of service. He was going to start a new job, but is unable to due to having to constantly drive up to Savannah to be there for mom. I am starting a GoFundMe to try and lessen the burden on my dad. The money is to help with gas and any bills that may come their way. This was all very unexpected and it happened so close to my dad's departure from the Navy, so it has been incredibly stressful.
