Building a specialised 4x4 ambulance for Ukraine

Hi, my name is Michal Harasimiuk, and unfortunately, I have done this before.

I am working with some wonderful people in Ukraine (such as Iryna Mashchytska pictured below with one of many ambulances she procured) focusing mainly on providing help to people in the Eastern Ukraine. They approached me with a special requirement: with the onset of winter, regular ambulances are just not coping.

Destroyed roads, remote areas, constant danger, and mud, mud and more mud.

We decided we need to deliver something special, and on a budget. The brand new Toyota or Nissan 4x4 ambulances are in the range of 30-50K GBP, so this is not an option. My first ambulance I sent over was a "as good as new" ex St. John's Ambulance Nissan Patrol - I paid 16K for it and (a) it is a lot of money (b) the supply has ended.

So we are building: with the help from Rotary Club in Plympton I purchased a base vehicle - a very capable, rugged and roomy Mitsubishi L400.

The money will go towards (with cost estimates in GBP):

complete service (500)
a set of new tyres (500)
refurbishing the interior in anti-septic materials (200)
medical electronics (500)
a stretcher (1000-1800, depending on the make and weight)
manufacture of custom brackets to hold everything in place (200)
transportation costs (1000)

Which is approximately 4K.

Any surplus will be used for medical consumables, and who knows, maybe we will be able to afford to buy a stock ambulance as well - these also continue to be in great demand.

The ambulance, supplies and any left-over budget will be donated to the Ukrainian charity:
