I am Dr. Mary Mukasa, the happiest, lovest, and joyful human. So, let me prescribe this joy. Shall we? I was born under exceptional circumstances. First, my parents divorced when I was only 10 years old. Secondly, my biological father abandoned me at (11 years old). I became a street kid, homeless, hungry, and vituperated. I ate from the dumpster, missed school, begged, and hustled to make it on the streets in Jinja town, East Africa. Thirdly, I went to live with my grandparents, who arranged to marry off at (12 years old). I became a child bride run-away.
I survived this ordeal independently when I enrolled in elementary, middle, and high school. I followed loving and caring teachers who introduced me to the sport of track and field. As a result, I found opportunities to compete internationally in various competitions. This success earned me scholarships to study sociology, Master of Business Administration, and Doctor of Marriage and Family Therapy at the Dr. Christopher Burnett Sickle Cell Family Healing University!
Noticeably, I am a doctor! Who facilitated therapeutic Burnett Flexible Practicum Model coagent with Bowen Natural Systems Theory, Mental Research Institute (MRI), Narrative Ceremonial Therapy, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). So, I would like to re-introduce myself. I began working professionally with Dr. Christopher Burnett to prescribe intellectual autonomy in the sickle cell family healing which had impacted multiple generations of my family through the Bowen Family Systems lens! On the first day of my doctoral coursework in the fall of 2013, Dr. Burnett asked all the doctoral students to enter to “learn and depart to think.” In a lovely and caring tone of voice, he said this. “I ask only one thing of you [pause]. That within our time together, you do something different. Anything different than what you entered with.” This was the first time any physician, professor, or family therapist had asked me to use “thinking” to find happiness!
Fundraising. Dear my lovely spouse, children, family therapists, spiritual sisters/brothers, medical and school professionals, extended family, and neighbors, I humbly ask for your financial/economic support of $ 2.95 or $12.00 in the GoFundMe!
