I'm Pat Whitty, the 81-year-old founder of Breaking Age, Inc., a nonprofit organization in San Antonio, Texas on a mission to bridge generational divides and combat the polarization, loneliness, and ageism epidemic affecting our society. Breaking Age, Inc. is dedicated to challenging age stereotypes and fostering understanding among generations.

The Issue 

Every week, as I teach technology classes at Senior Centers, I witness the isolation that is a result of ageism, misunderstanding, and disrespect. The silent generation and boomers feel disrespected by millennials, Gen Zs feel disconnected from Gen X parents, etc. This divide contributes to the growing polarization and ultimately for our silent generation, a loneliness epidemic in our country, and I'm determined to change that.

Our Solution: Generations Over Dinner 

I'm excited to launch "Generations Over Dinner" in the San Antonio community and beyond. This innovative initiative brings 8 to 10 individuals from different generations together around a table for a moderated discussion on a current topic and to share a meal. Each person will have the opportunity to express themselves and share their experiences and unique points of view in a safe, respectful environment so each can be truly seen, heard, and appreciated. This allows people from every age range and every socioeconomic background to learn from each other and consider the many different ways of interpreting issues from as many different lenses.

How You Can Help

I am hosting this event across all 11 senior centers in San Antonio over the next year, and I'm reaching out to you, our compassionate community, to help make Generations Over Dinner a reality for all the residents of the San Antonio Senior Centers. Your support will provide not only a meal for participants but also camaraderie and connections that will last a lifetime.

$15 will cover the cost of one dinner. $150 will cover the cost of an entire dinner for 10.
