Help build a nursery school in Malawi
Donation protected
Nursery school children at Sani Village in Nkhotakota in Malawi attend an outdoor breakfast club to start their day. They receive sponsored porridge, sweet potatoes and tea but are also in need of their own classroom as currently, they rely on the church hall, which is not always available for them to use. With your help, we will support the village's women to build a small roofed structure made of local plywood and corrugated metal roofing to enable the children to have breakfast and learn basic numeracy and literacy in all weather.
Building Dreams: The Nursery School in Nkhotakota Takes Shape
I'm excited to share some fantastic news from Nkhotakota, the place close to my heart. The dream of establishing a nursery school in Sani Village, nestled on the shores of Lake Malawi, is now becoming a reality. The foundation is in place, and brick by brick, our nursery school is starting to take shape.
A Vision Becomes Reality
As you might remember, during my visit to Nkhotakota in 2022, I was deeply moved by the Breakfast Club in Sani Village. The dedication of my mother and the community in ensuring that over 100 children receive a nutritious breakfast was truly inspiring.
However, our vision didn't stop at breakfast. We wanted to provide these young minds with a safe and nurturing environment for learning and growth. That's when the idea of a nursery school was born.
The Foundation: A Solid Start
The first step in turning this dream into reality was laying a strong foundation, both literally and metaphorically. The foundation of our nursery school has been successfully dug up, cemented and completed. It represents the solid groundwork that will support the construction of the nursery school building, the dreams and aspirations of many children in Sani Village.
Brick by Brick, We're Building Hope
Now, the real work has begun. Brick walls are being erected, and the school is slowly but steadily taking shape. The construction process is a testament to the power of community and the generosity of those who believe in the importance of education.
October 2023 Update
The funds donated are being used to fund construction of the nursery school as follows:
- Bricks: We chose to 'bake' the bricks on site to reduce costs, and the final cost for materials and labour came up to £300
- Cement: £195 (15 bags at £13 per bag)
- Corrugated Iron Sheets: £200 for 20 sheets to cover the roof
- Wood: £100 for recycled doors and roof beams
- Logistics: We have had to source some materials from further afield e.g. the capital city and this has meant spending some money on vehicle rental and fuel
- Staff: £400 to pay for 6 months for 2 bricklayers, 1 carpenter and 1 general helper
- Total Spent: £1,195
Thank you again for all your support! :)
