Build Our Community Campaign
A MENTOR FOR EVERY BLACK CHILD, A NEW HOPE FOR OUR COMMUNITY – SUPPORT THE 100 BLACK MEN OF LONDON
What They See is What They'll Be
For 20 years, the 100 Black Men of London has been running community development programmes aimed at our youth and has received the respect and acclaim of our peers, far and wide in so doing. In 20 years, we have delivered:
- 10,000+ Young People supported through our programmes.
- 250+ Health & Wellbeing sessions to community
- 2,500 mentoring Sessions all over London
- 250+ Wealth building Programmes.
Here are some things you may not know about how we have operated so far:
- The 100 Black Men has operated with minimal overheads, meaning every penny raised has been directly ploughed into delivery of our services for the Black community;
- All our mentors are volunteers, who dedicate their own time and money to the organisation - Our members all pay an annual dues of £250
- We have operated without receiving a PENNY of government funds – you, the community, have made us what we are!
As we celebrate our 20th anniversary this April, we are now setting our eyes firmly on a vision for the next 20 years, building on the foundations that have been set since 2001.
Our vision is to continue raising the self-esteem and aspirations of young Black people in London. We aim to provide an opportunity for every Black child in this city who wants or needs a mentor to have one that is trained and qualified by the 100 Black Men of London.
To achieve this goal requires a whole community effort and therefore we need your support. The ‘Build our Community’ campaign embodies the vision of the organisation - ‘What They See is What They Will Be’. We are looking to raise £200,000, which will take the 100 Black Men of London to the next level enabling us to recruit and train a community of mentors all over London who can then be accessed by every child who needs a mentor.
We believe that mentoring is a powerful development and self-actualisation asset that enables all children to recognise and unleash their potential and become the best version of themselves. Over 20 years, we have had several thousand young people attend our programmes and testify to the almost magical transformation it has brought about in their thinking, outlook in life and subsequent achievements.
You can hear from some of our mentees.
At the heart of this ambition is our desire to acquire a building from which we will deliver on our ambition. This building will serve three main purposes:
1. Enable 100BMOL to have a central service point from which to coordinate its London-wide community development and especially mentoring activities;
2. Provide London’s Black community with a Black-owned space which they can readily access for administrative, event and social purposes and claim ownership of;
3. Provide 100BMOL with a sustainable income stream through a robust business plan.
The Build your Community campaign embodies the vision of the organisation - ‘What they’ll see is what they will be’. Having this building will enable us to implement our robust business plan to ensure its sustainability and catapult our growth
When we reach this goal, we will acknowledge every single supporter in the building with a brick inscribed with your name, as a pillar of the community. We will also be granting every donor lifetime subscription to our newsletter and VIP welcomes to all our events and social activities.
