Build An Ability Center for Children with Disabilities

On March 11, 2024, I read an English storybook, Mama's Sleeping Scarf by Chimamanda Adichie, with children with disabilities in a public inclusive school we renovated two years ago. I am sharing the video here. I would love to start a literacy program for children with disabilities so they have consistent access and exposure to books and can fall in love with reading.

Did you know that 9 out of 10 children with disabilities in Nigeria do not have access to education? Imagine the countless dreams stifled, the untapped potential left dormant, and the heartbreaking cycle of poverty perpetuated. At Raising Star Africa Foundation, we refuse to accept this reality. Instead, we're on a mission to rewrite the narrative for children and young adults with disabilities across Africa by providing access to education, and skill empowerment to reach their full potential and have access to dignified and fulfilling work in future.

In a society where persons with disabilities are often marginalized and stereotyped, we envision a world where every individual is empowered to reach their full potential. That's why we're launching the Raising Star Africa Ability Center – a beacon of hope and opportunity for those who have been overlooked for far too long.

Our purpose is clear: to provide literacy, comprehensive digital and vocational skills training to children and young adults with disabilities. From graphic design and web development to vocational training like cloth-making, arts, and shoemaking. Our center will equip them with the skills and tools they need to thrive in today's digital age and beyond.

But this isn't just about acquiring skills – it's about unlocking potential and transforming lives. With your support, we can help each child and young adult with a disability develop their abilities, nurture their curiosity for learning, and pave the way for a brighter future. Together, we can break the cycle of poverty and empower a generation of changemakers.

With a proven track record of impact, including catering to over 7,000 persons with disabilities, the renovation of three (4) public inclusive schools that have given over 700 children with disabilities access to education, and the empowerment of over 100 children with disabilities, we are ready to take our mission to the next level.
